Reflects On Today’s Presentations - Blog #12

Blog #12

The presentation that I found the most interesting to me were all of them.  Although we were all nervous you could see all of the planning, research, and team work that was put into each presentation.  The power point slides for each group brought out new details from other view points of why The Big Brothers Big Sister of Greater Flint is such an needed community program.  Each group was given a different task to do but every project brought Big Brothers Big Sisters new opportunities for growth in the community.  The English 311 class of 2012 made a big impact on the Big Brother Big Sister project.

The ideas that I would have liked to have included in our presentation were using the term big's and litte's in our presentation.  I would have like to have had a project like the team with the book reuse project.  There was one team that had an idea of setting up meet and greet sessions to partner of Big's with Little's.  I like the one groups Idea of using the internet to broaden the public awareness of The Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Flint to a new customer base.  One of the groups had an idea of had the annual flower sale evolving Wal-Mart Store Inc.

Preparing for these project was very intense.  There were a lot of details to put together in a short amount of time.  With everyone having different class schedules and hours of work getting together after class was one of the biggest challenges.  One of our best resources was email and the internet.  Without these modern day tool I don't know how we would have been able to complete this project.  It is good was everyone has a gift in your group and brings their best skills to the table.

Students build character and become active participants as they work with others in their school and community to create service projects in areas like education, public safety, and the environment.

The skills that I will gain from this experience will be priceless real life skills.  Through my service learning experience. I will be able to use the knowledge and training in my current job to make me a more effective manager.  Many of the skill can be implement right away.  Service learning programs improve grades, increase attendance in school, and develop students' personal and social responsibility. Dear Wal-Mart Stores Inc.:

Re: The cleanliness of your men's restroom

On November 5, 2012, I bought a gallon of Mobile One 5W 30 synthetic oil and a Fram synthetic oil truck filter.  My purchase was made during lunch time between 12:00 pm. and 1:00 pm at the Court Street store location.  I also was going to purchase a Subway sandwich for lunch there but my mind was changed when I used your restroom facilities.

Unfortunately, your public men's restroom looked disgusting, smelled really unpleasant, and had not been detailed cleaned in a long time.  There were bugs the all of the light fixtures. spider webs were located in the top corners of the ceilings, walls, and base boards.  Someone had spit on all of the mirrors.  There were what appeared to be dried boogers on the walls between the mirrors. The tile grout was white between the tiles on the walls but was dirty looking down by the floor base board and over all of the floor.  The toilets and urinals were dirty on the outside and really nasty on the inside. I am disappointed because I enjoy shopping in your stores but this is unacceptable.  This is not the first time I have experience the men's public rest room looking in this condition.

To resolve the problem, I would appreciate your company making public rest room cleaning seriously and make it your number one company wide priority. Your customers deserver clean, safe, and secure rest room facilities to use and visit.

I look forward to your reply and a resolution to my problem and will wait until January 30, 2013 before seeking help from a consumer protection agency or Better Business Bureau. Please contact me at the above address, email, or by phone at 810-964-2597..

Sincerely,

Thanksgiving Day

Thanksgiving Day
Is Thanksgiving Day becoming the new biggest shopping day in the United States?  Has the value of spending quality time with family and friend’s become something of the past?  Has making money at any cost become the acceptable norm?  Thanksgiving Day is more than eating all the good food that will be severed.   It is about being thankful for little things and some big things in this world.   Our lives are busy with work, school, church, spouse, children, and life activities. There is nothing that can replace the times in our lives when all have holiday time off from the normal day to day hustles of life.  During the holidays we have an opportunity to develop and strengthen relationships with family and friends.  This is a time to reflect and priorities your life.  We should cherish the time we spend with family and friends.  Some things in life are priceless.

Online Identity Memo

According to the online ID Calculator results I am digitally disastrous.  There is a lot of information on the web, but it has little relevance to what I want to express about myself.

I did not know there were so many people with the name Shun Smith.

There was a lot of information that came up on a lot of other Shun Smith’s but very little on me.

On the web site linkedin there was some information but you had to log on to their site.

There was nothing on line that I could edit on these web sites.

All public information should only be of a profession manner.

When my name is searched for I would like for them to see only accurate, positive, and professional information.  I don’t go out on social web site so I am happy that there is very little information about out there.

Social Web sites can have a positive purpose if use them from professional reasons.

The Role Of Constructive Criticism

What is really the role of constructive criticism in the work place?  The definition of constructive is constructing or tending to construct; helping to improve; promoting further development or advancement.  The definition of criticism is the act of passing judgment as to the merits of anything.  The purpose constructive criticism in the work place is to build up an employee in areas that they may be unaware of or weak in.  Bring these areas to their attention in a positive and uplifting manner will be more likely to produce positive behavior and life changing results.  It is not always what we say but how we say it.

Blog #5 Instructions on how to assemble a vacuum

I researched instructions on line for assembling the Eureka AS1000 series vacuum.  The instructions were available in three languages English, French, and Spanish.  The English guide has only English instructions printed on sheet.  The French and Spanish guide has both the French instructions printed first.  The Spanish instructions are printed second under the French instructions.  All of the headings are bold in all three languages.  Both assemble guides feature six colors black, blue, gray, green, red, and yellow.  The Eureka AS1000 series vacuum quick start guide is really designed well.  The pictures walk you through all four steps.  The first step informs you of everything that should be in the box that you purchased.  The second step has twelve easy assembly picture boxes.  The third step shows you how to turn on the vacuum through pictures and instructions.  The fourth step shows you how to clean and assemble the dust cup through pictures and instructions  also.  The Quick Start Guide lives up to its name.  The guide is very user friendly, clearly written, and also includes an customer services helpline phone number.

BLOG MANAGING YOUR ONLINE IDENTITY
Who would have ever thought that your online identity would be considered valuable property?   Having your name or a company name as an email or web address can be priceless.  The ability to enter your name or company name in a web search and put up your name or business can give you a huge advantage in the internet world.  Web addresses are distributed on a first-come-first-served basis.  Someone with the same name as yours or the same company name can stop in your tracks.
My name is not as unique as I thought it was.  As a matter of fact it is very common.  I have to provide information on the web that will promote a profession and positive image of me.  The subject content will have to make me stand out from all of the others.
